New Gyyr Division Will Demonstrate Its Comprehensive Access Control Product Line

Las Vegas, NV — April 4, 2001 — Gyyr Electronic Access Control (EAC), a subsidiary of Odetics, Inc. (NASDAQ: ODETA & ODETB), will feature biometric facial recognition software, in addition to access control software for small- to midsized organizations, at ISC West April 4 - 6 in Las Vegas. The company will also demonstrate all components of its AXxess 202™ family of security management products, consisting of software, hardware, and digital video badging.  In a press conference on April 4, Gyyr EAC will reveal details about the recent Gyyr, Inc. reorganization into two divisions. This press conference will take place at 10:00 a.m. in room 105 of the Las Vegas Sands Convention Center, hosted in conjunction with Gyyr CCTV Products.

"Gyyr EAC is totally dedicated to the development of enterprise security management systems," explains Wesley R. Appleby, vice president and general manager. "In just two months since the Gyyr reorganization, EAC has significantly enhanced its core product, AXxess 202™, with leading-edge biometric facial recognition, and has been able to address the needs of smaller organizations via entry-level software. We've been developing access control technology since the mid-1980s — longer than most of our competitors. The innovations we are releasing this week demonstrate our commitment to continually enhance our product offerings."

In booth 4156, Gyyr EAC will demonstrate its entire AXxess 202 security management product line. This industry-compatible technology now consists of facial recognition; entry-level and enterprise-wide access control; digital video badging; CCTV integration; network communication; and door control/ monitoring.

Gyyr EAC will feature biometric security in its ISC exhibit via a new facial recognition software package. Unlike competitive software that only stores portions of the face, Gyyr's biometric technology compares the full facial area.  Its biometric template offers accurate and fast matching of badge holders by storing facial images as mathematical algorithms and randomly updating these images. This software accepts different kinds of likenesses, including imports from live CCTV, videotape, photos, photo fits and professional artist impressions.  Gyyr's facial recognition software is integrated with Gyyr's AXxess 202 security management system to provide a higher level of protection for sensitive security areas. It will be available in late May or early June through Gyyr's network of systems integrators.

For companies requiring basic security management, Gyyr EAC now offers AXxess EXpress™ entry-level access-control software. This Windows®-based technology needs no advanced technical expertise to operate. It offers small- to midsized organizations a feature-rich solution for building and parking access and alarm point monitoring. Additionally, AXxess EXpress allows a cost-effective upgrade path to the more powerful and customizable AXxess™ 202 enterprise software. AXxess EXpress is priced at $750.00 retail—55% less than the enterprise solution.

Gyyr EAC will also exhibit the other components of its complete enterprise security management system.  These consist of: 1) VideoKey™, a low-cost, complete digital video badging system; 2) RAMM™, remote-access memory for local and remote-site management—including network connectivity—of door and alarm monitoring; 3) card readers; and 4) BarLock Processors (BLP™ 206), which gather data on door control/monitoring and alarms.

Gyyr EAC intends to further enhance its enterprise security management solutions with new database capabilities and a more interactive graphical user interface. These offerings are expected to be released by mid-summer.
