Professional Security magazine, the most prominent security industry trade publication in the United Kingdom, recently published an article describing an installation for Open University in the UK. MAXxess AXxess 202 software, teamed with HID proximity card readers, were integrated to create a truly accessible, yet secure, campus.

From the article:
"The Milton Keynes site comprises 49 buildings spread over a 110-acre site. To meet the Disability Discrimination Act, the OU upgraded their existing 'tactile' card reader system at Walton Hall, to non-contact proximity technology, with the aim of making it easier for disabled staff and visitors to gain access.

Although the initial upgrade was driven by the needs of its disabled users, OU's security team reports that it has embraced the extra facilities.

(Security Manager) Steve Molloy added: 'The capacity of the system is impressive, almost a little daunting at first. It has however proven to be very user-friendly and we are continually learning how to get even more out of the level of information it provides us. It is an ideal solution for university campuses and other education establishments.' "
